Galapagos male turtle holding on a female in the mangroves

The male was trying to mate, hanging on to the female to prevent her escaping. The female almost drowned, but eventually managed to escape.

Galapagos swallow tailed gull

The swallow tailed gull is unique within the gulls for feeding exclusively at night - the only nocturnal gull in the world. Its night-adapted eyes allow it to feed miles from shore on fish and squid it captures from the surface of the ocean.

Sea lions frolicking in the waves

There are no seals in the Galapagos. Sea lions can be recognised by having a small external ear, absent in seals.
